I am the sole creator and operator behind the EZDoodles YouTube channel. I taught myself how to animate, edit videos, and capture gameplay footage from different consoles to upload content on YouTube.

Growth

When I started posting content in 2020, most of my videos received under 100 views each. However, after a few months went by I noticed that my channel was getting a small bump in viewership.

By using YouTube analytics, I could track where the viewership was coming from. I found one video, where I animated my experience playing a video game, was getting more views than my other videos, where I animated experiences from my real life.

Through my analysis, I realized this occurred because:

  • The video was more searchable because the video game was an additional keyword users could use to find my content.

  • As the video game was a more common topic used by other creators, the video received more traffic from similar animated gaming videos.

  • The content was more engaging to users, shown by an increase in the video watch time hours.

Based on those insights, I decided to pivot to creating more video game focused content rather than stories from my own life. I created a video series in the summer of 2021 that focused on telling the story of me doing a play through of a Pokemon game, intercutting game footage with animations.

Impact

Impact

  • Because of my pivot, my subscriber base increased 8X in one month and my channel became monetized.

  • My channel grew to over 16K subscribers and 1 million channel views.

  • I obtained sponsors and partnerships to create branded content.

  • I learned new skills (animation, video editing, streaming).
